Cow Conference

Tags

I saw the shot just as we crested the hill.  The cows that were normally scattered across the field were all grouped together staring at one cow that was facing them.  Even the calves were standing still and staring.  From the road, the cows appeared to be having a very solemn discussion or some type of lecture.

I don’t normally care for “country” type shots, but this looked so funny.  However, I couldn’t get the shot to work.  First, I was in a hurry; second, I was extremely sleepy.   Later in the morning, when I was looking at the images on the camera, I couldn’t even remember metering or focusing the shots.  I couldn’t find a shot that captured the gravity of the cows and the humorous way that the scene looked from the road.  Shots like these remind me of the inherent limitation of having one fixed lens (currently a 35mm Summicron).  Since the M9 is full frame, the resulting effect is almost akin to a wide-angle lens on a DSLR.  I’m beginning to feel the hunger for a 75 or 90!

Regardless, I did not care for the resulting image, but the shot reminds me of that moment of humor early in the morning.  And, after all, I committed to one image a day – no excuses.

Takeover of the humans will begin in less than a week. Harold, stop grazing and pay attention.

Emily, the picture turned out great! That was such a hilarious scene – topping the hill and the cows appearing to be receiving their daily assignment! You did great with the shadowing effects on the corners. Also, you captured the sun shining so beautifully on the hillside with the trees casting their shadows. Love it!
